The Legalweek conference scheduled to convene in New York City later this month has been moved to March due to the surge in coronavirus cases resulting from the Omicron variant.

Originally scheduled for Jan. 31-Feb. 3, the conference is now scheduled for March 8-11, still at the New York Hilton Midtown.

Mark Fried, CFO and president of events at ALM, the company that produces Legalweek, told me that the conference schedule will remain exactly the same, except that the Monday-Thursday schedule will adjust to Tuesday-Friday.

Anyone who has already registered for the conference need do nothing to update their registration. However, people with hotel reservations must change those reservations themselves.

Last week, when I asked Fried about rumors that Legalweek would be postponed, he said they were false, but that “we are exploring options.”

He told me this morning that the timing of the postponement was tricky, as he had to coordinate the availability of the Hilton, which the conference almost entirely occupies.

Fried hopes to keep the same speakers as were already scheduled, but his staff is in the process of confirming their availability.

In keeping with New York City’s vaccination requirements, attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination and to wear masks.

Fried said that he expects to have strong attendance and that preregistrations so far were indicating that attendance could exceed the 2020 Legalweek.

He said that ALM ran 30 in-person events in 2021 and expects to have a full slate of in-person events during the coming year.
