A new integration between two litigation-focused legal technology products connects more than 500 million federal and state litigation dockets and documents with a database of expert witness and judicial profiles, with the aim of helping lawyers better evaluate expert witnesses.

The integration is between Docket Alarm, a Fastcase-owned product that mines federal and state court dockets to provide litigation alerts and case-prediction analytics, and Courtroom Insight, a knowledge management platform that captures key information about expert witnesses, arbitrators, judges and attorneys.

“We are building API bridges within the legal tech community, knowing that the litigation record contains a robust dossier on thousands of expert witnesses,” Docket Alarm founder and Fastcase VP of Analytics Michael Sander said. “Marrying these data sources ultimately helps law firms make better decisions on expert witnesses.”

Fastcase and Courtroom Insight had already partnered in 2018 to add the latter’s data on experts, arbitrators and judges to the Fastcase legal research platform.

When Courtroom Insight launched in 2010, it was a Yelp-like product for lawyers to provide ratings and reviews of expert witnesses and arbitrators. Over the years, it moved away from that model, ultimately relaunching in 2017 as a platform for law firms to privately share knowledge and mine data about experts.

It is now used by a number of AmLaw 200 law firms to integrate private firm information with other important data from a variety of public and subscription sources.

Mark Torchiana, Courtroom Insight’s cofounder and CEO, said that his company’s deepening of its partnership with Docket Alarm will empower law firms to supplement and analyze critical information about expert witnesses and judges in their private digital environments.

“By partnering with a leading state analytics and data provider like Docket Alarm, we are able to increase the value of our system,” he said. “It’s exciting to work with innovative partners that value integrating into the customers’ preferred workflow.”
