The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism is pleased to announce that The Future Is Now: Legal Services conference will return in a virtual format on Thursday, April 21, 2022.

The 2022 conference will explore the intersection of legal innovation and professionalism through the lens of delivering value for today’s legal consumers.

What is value?

We’re living in an age of digital transformation in which lawyers are reimagining the way they deliver services to enhance the customer’s experience. Rather than looking at consumer challenges as impediments to legal services, scholars are urging lawyers to incorporate these challenges into their business solutions.

For example, industry data tells us that almost 80% of consumers want a lawyer they can work with remotely. This can be especially important in reaching new clients in underserved rural areas, like many counties in Illinois, who may not have easy access to an attorney.

Firms that are embracing this demand for flexibility are reaping the benefits. According to Clio, law firms that have equipped themselves with tools to service clients remotely (like online portals, payment systems, and relationship management platforms) have seen an average increase in their revenues of 135% since 2013.

But just adopting new technology isn’t enough to deliver true value. In the age of LegalZoom and alternative business structures, lawyers must continue to define their role in society and differentiate the services they provide.

Conference format

Through a series of live virtual talks and interactive townhall sessions, The Future Is Now will explore topics including:

  • The value imperative: what does value really mean?
  • How do lawyers measure their value?
  • Novel ways lawyers are delivering value in their practices and organizations.
  • Defining value from an access to justice perspective.

The speaker lineup will be announced soon.

Conference registration will open in February. Sign up here to stay updated on speaker and registration information.

Attendees will be eligible to apply for professional responsibility CLE credit in Illinois.
